Sports Massage
WHO CAN GET A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Anyone, you don't have to be an athlete to get a sports massage! It was orginally used on athletes to help their body prepare for events or recover from training sessions and big competitions.
BENEFITS OF SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage helps your body to recover by aiding the healing process, this doesn't mean you need to be injured either; after a big day on the hill or in the gym, your muscles will have been working extrememly hard and will need a good, deep massage to help them recover so you can get back out there the following day and perform just as well, if not better than the day before. You don't even need a specific area of tightness, if you're just feeling a bit sore all over, I can fix that with an all over body massage.
HOW IT WORKS
Sports massage works by stimulating blood and lymph circulation, this helps to flush out lactic acid (the stuff that makes your muscles burn and fatigue) and thus aiding a quicker recovery, we also use trigger point therapy which helps to relieve any specific areas of tightness (knots). It is a deep tissue massage that relives muscle tension, decreases any swelling around joints and ultimately reduces the risk of injury.

Injury Treatment
INJURY DIAGNOSIS
If you have had a tumble whilst doing your sport, tweaked something in the gym, or have an on going niggle, Sophie can assess, diagnose and treat the problem. Your initial assesment will often highlight weaknesses that can pre-dispose you to injury, part of your treatment and rehab will include exercises to strengthen these areas of weakness. First time assesments take an hour, including a brief overview of previous injuries, a physcial assesment to determine what is causing the problem and why, then finally treatment will begin to get you back on the right track.
TREATMENTS
After finding the cause of the problem, Sophie can then treat it! You will be given a full explanation of the procedure and projected outcome of the treatment, all sessions are tailored to your individual needs and preferences. Treatments can include any of the following:
-
Sports massage
-
Peripheral and spinal joint mobilisations
-
Fascia release
-
Soft tissue mobilisations
-
Neural rehabilitation
-
Taping and strapping
REHABILITATION
Having undergone an intial assesment and treatment, it may be appropriate to put a rehab program in place. Sophie will explain and show you exercises during the session and will provide you with an exercise program to take home, enabling you to keep progressing and speed up your recovery. In order to give you the best treatment, your lifestyle and sport is taken into consideration, this ensures the rehab exercise program is achievable and will not put you in danger of re-injury.
